Paid Parental leave is an issue that affects us all, from parents and families to employers and business groups as well as governments and tax payers. The major parties now agree that parents are entitled to a period of paid leave following the birth or adoption of a child, but it wasn’t always this way.

Paid parental leave only became available to Australian families in 2011, almost three decades later than other OECD nations. The ALP, Coalition and the Greens have all proposed different policies to deliver a paid parental leave scheme.Emma Lancaster takes a closer look at what’s on offer this election.
