Higher education expenditure makes up almost 2 percent of Australia’s GDP but for such a large sector of Australia’s economy, it does not always attract the policy focus or public interest it deserves. The WIRE is taking a closer look at the major parties higher education policies. So far, the Labor government is onto its fourth Higher Ed Minister in 6 months and the Liberal party has a total of five dot points dedicated to Universities in their Election 'Plan' handbook. Higher Education may be set to recoup the billons of dollars that was stripped from it this year. As the Rudd government has flagged it will “re-examine” the cuts it made to university funding, with potential savings being found by capping the number of undergraduate students able to study at University.
