The union movement can pretty well take the credit for winning Labor the election in 2007. Their ‘Your rights at work’ ads touched a chord with the Australian public – you’ll remember the ad where a mum is sacked over the phone as her daughter looks on, and the ones featuring teenagers with after school jobs. But what about this election – Unions now have the promised the Fair Work Act, but they still have plenty to say in the leadup to Australia’s next government. ACTU President Ged Kearney says the campaign will focus on the dangers of Work Choices ever returning.
