According to the 2006 census elderly people make up 11% of our population with a quarter of them living alone in the outer suburbs of our main cities. The Australian Red Cross last week released the results of a survey that look at community perceptions of the more dependent groups in society. They identified the elderly as being considered the most vulnerable and least-cared for.
