Egypt’s military cracks down after Israeli embassy breach

The Israeli embassy in Cairo was overrun by protestors on Friday night, after the shooting of five Egyptian soldiers by Israeli forces near the border between the two countries. But now some Egyptians say that the country’s ruling military council is using the chaos as an excuse to roll back the hard-won freedoms that the country has recently had a taste of.

Rania Al-Malky is the editor in chief of Daily News Egypt. She’s in the middle of a quick visit to Australia, and I caught up with her in Sydney earlier today.She began by describing some of the fallout from the incident at the Israeli embassy.
