Thousands of Egyptians have taken to the streets on the first anniversary of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi’s inauguration. Many are frustrated with the political situation currently in power and have set up anti-government demonstrations to demand Morsi resign and abolish the Muslim brotherhood’s narrow political interests. Egypt is now caught in a struggle between the Muslim brotherhood on the one hand, and the military on the other. Tensions are increasing with a number of deaths and cases of sexual assaults occurring during the violent protests.
