Education a priority for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents see education as the most important thing for their children’s future. That’s the conclusion of a study by Labour Market Research centre at WA Curtin University, which also found that Indigenous parents believe self-identity is a key to their children’s success in life. Over a thousand surveys from 11 locations around Australia was compiled.

The study was prepared using qualitative data made available from the Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children.Common responses that emerged from the Aboriginal parents surveyed says education is very important to children’s future. But equally parents believed it’s equally important that children know where they are from and take pride from this heritage.
