Dyson Heydon to stay on at Trade Union Royal Commission
Dyson Heydon has dismissed attempts to have him disqualified from the Royal Commission into Corruption in Trade Unions, saying accusations the public might perceive him to be biased are unfounded. The former High Court judge was accused of bias by the union movement after agreeing to speak at a Liberal Party fundraiser, but Heydon says that doesn’t mean he supports or has any relevant association with the Liberal Party. The ACTU and the Labor Party says his reputation is tarnished regardless, and the issue points to poor judgement by Prime Minister Tony Abbott. But political commentator Margo Kingston says the admission that Heydon can’t use a computer to read his own emails should be enough to destroy his credibility.
