Dreaming of a climate-change tackling budget
Through strategic leaks, we know that the stricken Murray Darling Basin is likely to benefit to the tune of $500 million from the budget. On the face of it then, it seems like the environment may do rather well out of this budget. But already, Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown has labeled the $500 million pledged to the Murray Darling basin as too little too late and has said that much more action is needed to implement a long-term environmentally sustainable budget. He’s also charged the Federal Treasurer with “eco-blinkers” claiming that while his UK counterpart, Gordon Browne has been willing to tackle climate change, Costello has declined to even mention the word in his 10 last budgets. What would the ideal climate change-tackling budget look like?
