The Bush Administration has heralded the drafting of legislation aimed at privatizing Iraq’s oilfields as a step towards a peaceful settlement amongst the country’s warning factions. However, observers remain concern that rather than drawing the political factions away from the insurgency, if passed the bill could help propel the country towards full-scale civil war. Raed Jarrar is an Iraqi national who was forced to flee the country after the US-led invasion. He is now the Iraqi consultant for the American Friends Service Committee. He spoke earlier with the Wire, outlining some concerns held by his countrymen about the law.
