Dr Helen Caldicott has been campaigning to end nuclear proliferation for many years, and is the author of a number of books on the subject, including her most recent publication: “The New Nuclear Danger: George W. Bush’s Military-Industrial Complex”. She’s also the Founder and President of the Nuclear Policy Research Institute in Washington and is now the subject of an upcoming SBS documentary, “Helen’s War” made by her niece, Anna Broinowski. Dr Caldicott believes that George Bush’s War on Terror is escalating the nuclear arms race around the world. One of her key concerns is the use of depleted uranium in so-called conventional weapons in recent conflicts like the first Gulf War in 1991, Afghanistan and today in Iraq. “Helen’s War: Portrait of a Dissident” screens on SBS on July 1st at 8:30pm.
