Doreen Kartinyeri came to national attention during the hugely controversial Hindmarsh Bridge affair in the 1990’s as the leader of group of Narrandjeri women who defended their beliefs in secret women’s business in the face of a sceptical public. But Doreen had always been something of a trailblazer. She was brought up in times when Indigenous people had no rights but she was a feisty young woman and transcended her mission beginnings to become a significant Aboriginal historian. “My Ngarrandjeri Calling” is the story of her life. Her son Klynton Wanganeen talks about the book and about his mother.
