Domestic violence services fear cuts to funding

Community organisations servicing victims of domestic violence today implored the Federal Government to maintain their small yet vital funding. The conference held in Melbourne is particularly poignant in the lead up to International Women’s Day this Saturday.

The National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness receives $160 million each year from the Federal Government, and this supports 39 domestic violence services. However, on June 30 the funding agreement will expire and the Government are yet to make an announcement about its renewal. Social service organisations fear that the expiration of funding will be used to deliver budget savings.
