Liberal MP Andrew Wallace has proposed age restrictions to be placed on online pornographic content, per government-commissioned research and a report from the joint Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs. The research found porn was being accessed by Australian children as young as 8 years of age, and that implications later in life, including sexual and domestic violence correlated with early access to adult material.

Mr Wallace has called for age verification to be placed on internet pornography and for access to be limited to those over the age of 18. He also denies that pornography could serve as a sexual educational tool in any capacity.

While claims that technology for safe and effective age verification is available, the committee is yet to express clear plan for implementation.
