In an Australian first, victims of domestic violence and sexual assault may soon have their cases heard in a specialised court in New South Wales. The proposal is a pre-election commitment from the New South Wales Labor party, who will establish the courts if elected next year. The court would employ specialist judges and lawyers and allow witnesses to give evidence remotely to reduce the stress associated court.

It is hoped this would increase reporting of domestic violence and sexual assault, and result in more convictions and sentencing.
