Indigenous juveniles are being given harsher sentencing in Australian courts, when diversionary measures such as community service would be just as effective – a new inquiry shows. The Australian Institute of Criminology is calling for courts (particularly in the Northern Territories) to explore alternatives to immediate jail sentencing. Alex Rappel spoke with Chair of the Committee Bob Debus MP.
