Disability Royal Commission to investigate advocacy rights and community attitudes
On Tuesday the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability published its latest issues paper, to assist them in their investigations into society’s awareness and understanding of the rights of Australians living with disabilities.
The commission is seeking feedback from disabled people, their families, advocates, organisations and experts by providing responses relating to community attitudes, unconscious bias, stigma, social prejudice and distancing, paternalism and ableism and how well representative advocacy organisations are working to prevent and respond to abusive, negligent and exploitative behaviour targeted towards those in the disability community.
