Disability funding falls through the State-Federal divide
But a meeting today between state, federal and territory disability ministers broke up with no agreement on how to come to an agreement on funding for the next five years, even though this agreement runs out on June 30. The states and territories had been looking to the Federal government to match their current level of funding dollar for dollar This would have seen an increase of Commonwealth funds worth $2.1 billion. A recent federal Senate Inquiry highlighted the current deficit in funding in this area. Dr Ken Baker, the CEO of National Disability Services, which represents 500 non-government organizations working in this area outlined the fall out from today’s meeting.
