Desalination – it’s an issue that has stirred up much debate around the country and this week it has South Australian foodies up in arms. TV chefs Simon Bryant and Maggie Beer have joined in the argument againts a proposed plant at the top of a gulf which is an important fish breeding ground. They say BHP Biliton’s proposed desalination plant for Point Lowly near Whyalla, as part of its Olympic dam expansion, will harm the marine life, thus affecting the seafood industry.
