Dental decay linked to anxiety levels among young Indigenous adults
Ground breaking research shows that among indigenous Australians dental health problems are linked to poor mental health and anxiety. These links have not been explored before, and the research may lead to changes in the way services are delivered to young Indigenous adults. The report’s findings have led to a call for dentists to get involved in referring patients to other medical and social services.
The study also shows young Indigenous females are more likely to suffer racial discrimination, while having anxiety about dental problems. And if you’re male, you’re likely to be resilient, with a job, own a toothbrush and have one or more filled teeth.
