The Australian Democrats are pressuring the South Australian government to pass prioritise legislation on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands – when Parliament resumes next week. South Australian Democrat Kate Reynolds claims there has been little action to address the problem of petrol sniffing on the lands since the Coroner’s findings two years ago brought public attention to the chroming deaths of three Aboriginal men. Ms Reynolds accuses the state government of loud chest beating over the issue and says prevention and rehabilitation must happen as soon as possible.
