Democracy gets a boost in Hong Kong

Pro-democracy candidate, Anson Chan has today won a seat in Hong Kong’s legislative council. This is a show of the Hong Kong people’s support for democracy after the pro democracy camp suffered devastating losses just a month ago at the November district elections. While the result was seen to be a litmus test for public support for democracy, the legislative council is often regarded as powerless and it is debatable if Hong Kong will see a faster pace garuanted its mini-constitution, The Basic Law. The Wire takes a closer look at the political struggle between the pro-democracy movement and Chinese loyalists in the territory.
