The250 thousand Australians suffer from dementia. By 2050 that number will be one million. It’s something families and society will increasingly have to deal with as the biggest ever generation ages. British psychiatrist professor Julian Hughes is currently on a lecture tour of Australia, talking about the ethical issues surrounding how we treat dementia patients. He says once a person is labelled with dementia our society ceases to regard them as individual human beings.
