The Government took its controversial Medicare Levy Surcharge Bill back to the Senate today. And for the second time, it was rejected. Currently, anyone who has private health insurance with a registered health fund can claim a 30 per cent rebate, regardless of how much they earn. But the Labor government wants to eliminate the refund for high income earners. The Shadow Health Minister says this will put more pressure on the public health system.
