Iranian Kurdish refugee Fazal Chegeni has been found dead after escaping from the Christmas Island detention centre, causing riots to break out today and guards abandon their posts. Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has confirmed the death but says circumstances are not suspicious. Refugee advocates say Fazal should not have been put into detention because of serious mental health issues. His death is currently being investigated by the Australian Federal Police.
