David Hicks faces new charges
Tomorrow, thousands are expected to converge on Canberra to protest the continued detention of David Hicks at the Guantanamo Bay military facility. As they gather to coincide with the opening of parliament, Hick’s Australian and US lawyers will continue to digest the latest charges that have been filed against their defendant in the US military tribunal. Despite the charges being announced over the weekend, ongoing challenges to the tribunal’s legality mean that David’s is not expected to face trial for two years. I spoke earlier with David Hick’s, Australian lawyer David McLeod about the new charges, that of providing material support for terrorism and attempted murder in violation of the law of war.
