Cuts to hit Indigenous Queenslanders harder
Indigenous Queenslanders will be hit hard after the Newman Government announced more than 4,000 job cuts to the health sector. Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin has expressed concerns over the health of Indigenous Australians after the Queensland Government announced budget cutbacks last week.
The Indigenous Expenditure Report, which was recently released by the Productivity Commission, reveals that Indigenous Australians need more than twice as much government support to access health services, some of which are under the knife in Queensland. Professor Amanda Lee from the School of Public Health and Social Work at Queensland University of Technology says the cuts will affect more than just the health of Indigenous Queenslanders.
