In June The NSW Baird government cut funding to women’s refuges and scores of other services for the homeless. The funding was re-directed for: Going Home Staying Home, a new policy for homelessness and domestic violence services which will see 27 women’s refuges, some of which had been open for decades, lose their funding and shut down.

Some of these services include the Killara Women’s Refuge and the Muslim Women’s Association center. Up to 2000 women and children each year who seek help from female-only homelessness services will now be shifted to these other services
