Sex workers in NSW are not permitted to operate within view of a residence, church, hospital or school. However, the reality of street based sex work in Darlinghurst does not reflect this, much to the despair of many local residents. The commander of Kings Cross Police, Superintendent David Darcy has put forward a proposal that may cordon off street sex workers from residential areas. This proposal follows ongoing clashes between street sex workers and local residents. Street closures have recently been trailed with some success. Shefah Szetu spoke to Superintendent David Darcy and Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore. The Wire contacted the Sex Worker Outreach Project (SWOP) but they were unavailable for comment.
