Indigenous cultures will take centre stage at the Queensland Museum next week as the state’s first permanent Aboriginal exhibition opens its doors. The Dandiiri Maiwar centre will be launched on the 10th of December to the sounds of Indigenous singers, dancers, songwriters and storytellers. The launch day will give visitors a chance to immerse themselves in Indigenous culture, with traditional dance performances, storytelling, traditional weaving and arts workshops to be included as part of the celebrations. The museum’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Project Officer, Angelina Hurley, says the whole idea of the centre is to reflect the voice of Indigenous communities. Indigenous singer/songwriter Toni Janke says an important aspect of the centre will be to help people understand Indigenous culture and how it is evolving.
