CSIRO keeps an eye on social media
The government agency, the CSIRO, is developing new software that monitors Australians’ conversations on social media. It comes after another successful social media monitoring service was implemented to detect early warnings of disasters.
Emergency services are already monitoring our social media behaviour to seek information on developing disasters. The Emergency Situational Awareness tool tracks twitter for words like flood and fire .The ESA service is being trialled by government agencies and departments, and CSIRO are working on something new. Mr Dormer says the Vizie program, which monitors certain conversation topics, will allow stronger connections with consumers.
