Farmers and environmental campaigners have slammed regulation of the coal seam gas industry in New South Wales as ‘broken’ and in need of reform following a Federal government decision to conditionally approve a coal seam gas project in the state’s north.

They claim it points to weaknesses in the approval process of CSG projects at both a state and federal level. The announcement comes after a disagreement between the federal and state governments over regulation of the industry in NSW.
