A free West Papua demonstration in Melbourne this year

A peaceful  student rally in Jayapura in West Papua was broken up with military gunfire earlier this week. Since last year Indonesia has embarked on an aggressive development program in the region, inviting foreign interests in for mining and other projects. Free Papua activists  say the military build up is quick to crush any form of protest,  and is using Covid as an excuse.
