CPI figures spook Liberals and cause more housing pain

Today’s inflation figures of 1.9% look quite low but according to the Reserve Bank’s calculations they’re really over 3%, which could mean an interest rate rise before the election. Political commentator Christian Kerr says contrary to accepted wisdom that may actually work in John Howard’s favour. David Imber from Australians For Affordable Housing says the CPI figures show most rise in rents and food and that many Australians are hurting and that could make housing a voting issue.
