Thirty two years ago, nine-week old Azaria Chamberlain disappeared from a camping ground at Uluru and was never seen again. Her mother Lindy always maintained a dingo had taken her baby daughter, and this morning, it was confirmed in the Darwin Magistrates court.
Dingo attacks are extremely rare, but the court’s finding confirms that the canines can be dangerous, and that precautions should be taken in regions where they’re found. Some observers say while dingoes are much-loved Australian predators, they’ve also been unfairly persecuted because of a perception they regularly kill livestock and attack children.
