A group of West African cotton farmers are touring Queensland and New South Wales this month, hoping to learn how improved cotton farming practices will help reduce poverty in their home countries. Dr Peter Carberry is working with the group and discusses the global implications of the tour.

Africa has a current population exceeding one billion, and it’s estimated two hundred million people across the continent are malnourished.By twenty-fifty, the population figure is expected to double, and the food security issues in Africa will only escalate. These issues are complex and the solutions are often long-term, but a partnership between the Australian government  and key African stakeholders is hoping to build long-term, sustainable improvement for Africa’s food security future.Cotton is one of the crops which can help make a difference.
