Coral going deeper as the climate changes

A team of researchers led by the Museum of Tropical Queensland has found that corals living in deeper reefs could be essential in the global fight to save shallow coral reefs.
They found evidence in the Maldives last year that coral bleaching decreases as water depth increases by diving 30 metres recording the species’ occurrence and the degree of bleaching.
Researchers say they are still trying to discover why this is but are aiming to improve the resilience of reefs to the impacts of climate change.
