Coping with breast cancer
According to the National Breast Cancer Council One in eight Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. That’s ten thousand each year. Greater awareness and early detection however, means more women are surviving cancer, and that fewer women need to have their breast, or breasts removed. Dr Alison Kitchin is a New Castle based GP. Alison was at home when found a lump. After consulting her doctor, she underwent surgery twice. This was followed by six weeks of radio therapy and then six months of chemotherapy. She talks to The Wire about her experience and gives some advice to those women who may have come across a suspicious lump in their breast.
