Controlling the small arms trade
1.8 million people were shot and killed last year. In response to this horrible statistic the National Coalition for Gun Control today launched the Million Faces Campaign. The Campaign is aiming to raise awareness about the international small arms trade and raise support for an international arms control treaty to ensure that guns do not end up in the wrong hands. The small arms trade remains a multi-billion dollar industry, with millions of guns each year being shipped into conflict-ridden areas. Mara Moustafine, National Director of Amnesty International Australia, spoke with The Wire about the scale of the problem posed by the international small arms trade.
