It’s sixteen years since the world stood by and watched genocide happen in Rwanda. Almost a million Tutsis died at the hands of rival tribe the Hutus. In an ominous echo of that conflict a rebel group of heavily armed Tutsis is now causing chaos in eastern Congo, which has been ruled by a Hutu majority government many of whom fled to Congo from Rwanda. Up to forty thousand people are reported to be fleeing in terror as the Tutsi rebels advance. Lulu Mitshabu is Congo program coordinator for aid agency Caritas – she’s from the Congo and was there earlier this year.
