Concerns surface about Federal Government’s Digital Identity Scheme

Without much fanfare, the Government has put forward proposed legislation to establish a Trusted Digital Identity Scheme. The legislation would expand its current ability to issue digital identity in Australia. In practice, this represents an expanded version of the government’s Mygov platform  – and potentially allow any Australian business to apply to have permission to identify digital identities.

There are significant privacy concerns about the Scheme, and there are calls to ensure that data is properly protected, as Kelsie Nabben – a socio-technical researcher at the RMIT Blockchain Innovation Hub told Evan Wallace.
