Staying with East Timor, here in Australia there have been concerns about claims in the media that Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri should step down so that law and order can be restored. Tim Anderson is a lecturer in Political Economy at the University of Sydney. He argues that the violence in Dili is not a spontaneous industrial dispute, nor a result of ethnic tensions. He is also concerned over comments by Prime Minister John Howard that the country has not been well-governed under Alkatiri. He gave his perspective on the coverage by The Australian newspaper and other media outlets against Alkatiri.
