We may have made progress with recycling programs for things like bottles and paper, but how many of us know where our old computers and mobile phones end up? Forty-billion tonnes of electronic or ‘e-waste’ is produced each year worldwide, and while Australians love buying electronics, we’re not pulling our weight when it comes to getting rid of it. Unlike other countries, Australia has no federal laws to help deal with this costly and toxic issue. The Wire asked Senior Lecturer in Waste Management at Griffith University, Dr Sunil Herat, what some people are doing to solve the e-waste problem.
