Most people don’t like throwing out objects that have sentimental value, but there are about a-million Australians who have a serious condition called compulsive hoarding disorder.
Their insatiable need to collect worthless objects and an inability to throw things away can create living conditions that put them at risk of eviction, house fires and infestation of vermin. Experts are calling for the disorder to be formally recognised as a mental illness so that those who suffer from it can get access to treatment more easily.
