The Renewable Energy Target has been the subject of debate between political parties for months. The Coalition have proposed a target of 30,000 gigawatt hours per year, while Labor aim for a target closer to 40,000. In a bid to diffuse the impasse and to allow the renewable energy industry to get on with business, the Clean Energy Council have proposed a middle-ground target of 33,500 gigawatt hours per year, despite it being less than ideal.
