Companies to come clean on greenhouse pollution

It has been revealed today that the Federal government could make it compulsory for businesses to audit their greenhouse gas emissions and disclose the information to the public. The proposed legislation is expected to be introduced later this year, and will target companies who emit more than 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. It was one of the recommendations from the report released by the Prime Ministerial Task Group on Emissions Trading last month and the move has been described as the first step towards implementing an emissions trading scheme.
