A national energy conference in Melbourne has concluded with high hopes that Australia is on its way to use more wind, water and sun – sourced energy. The conference showcased community-led enterprises that are creating their own renewable energy solutions. One community is attempting to restore a water turbine to generate power for 50 households, and another solar city project is working with 14 municipalities. Community members involved in some of the projects say they expect better support following the passing of the government’s clean energy bills.

Conference participants say Australia is lagging behind overseas practise with countries like Germany having 98 percent of its energy consumption supplied by wind and solar technology.
