Committee recommends Australia toughens up its nuclear treaties

The Australian parliament’s Treaties Committee today tabled its report on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. Committee chair, Federal MP Kelvin Thomson says that the committee’s 22 recommendations harden Australia’s stance on working towards a nuclear-free world. He says Australia’s role as a leading uranium producer doesn’t lessen its credibility but gives it more weight to demand that other countries sign up to protocols ensuring that the production of nuclear weapons is stopped.
