The Muslim Leader of Libya, Colonel Gaddafi has just been elected as the new chairman of the African Union. Gaddafi has been one of the most controversial and long-standing leaders in African politics, who in the past had pushed for Arab unity. As the new chairman of the Union, he is now pushing for what he calls the “United States of Africa”, a single federation of all African nations. While African unity is on the top of his agenda, in reality Africa is politically and economically fragmented.
