US President elect Barack Obama has appointed his former rival Senator Hilary Clinton as the new Secretary of State. Mr Obama said the decision reflects his belief in ‘strong people and strong opinions’. The days when he described her foreign affairs record as ‘thin’ are clearly over, but some speculate that the relationship could still be shaky. With the Iraq and Afghan wars dragging on and costing billions, Clinton faces many challenges in her new role.
